Government of Canada Investing $3.5 Million in TechAlliance to Boost Innovation in Southwestern Ontario

Government Funding to Drive Innovation and Business Growth

The Government of Canada is investing $3.5 million in TechAlliance of Southwestern Ontario to launch Polaris, a new initiative that will provide funding, mentorship, and training for over 115 high-potential businesses across the region.

Delivered through FedDev Ontario, this government funding aims to help companies innovate, scale, and create sustainable jobs in critical technology sectors — from clean tech to digital health.

About the Polaris Program

Polaris is a business support program designed and delivered by TechAlliance of Southwestern Ontario, one of the region’s leading innovation hubs.

The program will help innovative businesses in London, Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford, Lambton, and Huron counties access the resources they need to grow and compete on a global scale.

Its mission is to foster innovation and bridge the economic gap between urban and rural communities across southwestern Ontario.

Who the Program Is For

Polaris will support high-potential firms that are developing innovative technologies and solutions in key industries, including:

  • Artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Cybersecurity
  • Digital health and medical technology
  • Agricultural technology (AgTech)
  • Clean technology and sustainability
  • Advanced manufacturing and housing
  • Zero-emission vehicle innovation
  • Other critical and emerging technology sectors

This government-backed funding initiative focuses on helping businesses that contribute to a sustainable and competitive regional economy.

How the Program Works

Through Polaris, TechAlliance will deliver a combination of financial and non-financial supports to help businesses strengthen their capacity for growth and innovation.

Key components include:

  • Seed funding to accelerate technology development
  • Mentorship and coaching from experienced industry experts
  • Training programs to build business and leadership skills
  • Advisory services for scaling and commercialization
  • Leadership development to prepare founders for long-term success

Together, these supports will help companies overcome barriers, improve productivity, and bring innovative products and services to market.

Impact of the Government Funding

The $3.5-million federal investment is expected to:

  • Support over 115 high-potential companies in the region
  • Create and maintain sustainable, well-paying jobs
  • Strengthen innovation in critical and emerging technology sectors
  • Bridge rural-urban gaps in business support and opportunity
  • Increase the global competitiveness of southwestern Ontario firms

This project reinforces Canada’s commitment to building a resilient, inclusive, and technology-driven economy.
