Funding from ISED – Call for Vehicle theft prevention

Are you an innovator looking for funding? With vehicle theft on the rise, Transport Canada, in partnership with the RCMP and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), is seeking innovative solutions to tackle this growing problem. If you have a groundbreaking idea or can significantly enhance an existing technology, now’s the time to apply for a grant under the Vehicle Theft Prevention Challenge.
Why This Matters:
Vehicle theft in Canada is increasingly sophisticated, with thieves using electronic devices to steal newer models of cars, SUVs, and trucks in a matter of seconds. The financial toll on Canadians is staggering, with organized crime playing a major role in these thefts. This challenge aims to accelerate innovation in vehicle theft deterrents and protect Canadians from further losses.
Challenge Overview & Funding:
The challenge is focused on developing low-cost, effective, and innovative electrical or electromechanical solutions to prevent vehicle theft. Here’s what you need to know:
- Grant Funding: This challenge provides grant funding to support Phase 1 (Proof of Feasibility) proposals.
- Technology Readiness Levels (TRL): The challenge is open to technologies in TRL stages 1-4, meaning early-stage innovations are eligible.
- Desired Outcomes: Solutions must be affordable (under $500), easy to install, safe, and suitable for Canadian weather. They should target common vehicle theft methods like relay attacks, key programming, and opportunistic key code grabbing.
Key Dates:
- Opening Date: August 14, 2024
- Closing Date: September 25, 2024, 2:00 PM Eastern Time
Funding Eligibility:
This challenge is only open for Phase 1 submissions. Make sure your solution doesn’t interfere with onboard vehicle systems or invalidate manufacturer warranties.
Next Steps:
Before you apply, carefully review the Grant Instructions and Procedures document to understand the challenge’s requirements and evaluation criteria.
If you’re a Canadian innovator with a novel idea to prevent vehicle theft, this is your chance to make a difference. With rising theft rates, this challenge aims to provide affordable, effective solutions that can be commercialized.
